Future Falcon Program
"My 6th grade son participated in the Basketball Future Falcon Night and I want to send my sincere thank you for such a nice event. My son said the players were so welcoming and nice. I could tell he and his teammates felt special to be recognized during halftime. I want to extend my thank you to the coaches and especially the players since they made the evening so special." - ERMS Parent
The Briar Woods High School (BWHS) Future Falcon Program is a collaborative effort between BWHS Athletics and the local middle school designed to engage, excite, and transition prospective high school athletes. The primary goal is to familiarize middle school students with the high school's sports culture, facilities, coaches, and expectations, ultimately fostering a strong pipeline of dedicated student-athletes and enhancing participation across all BWHS athletic programs.
Program Goals
Increase Awareness: Expose middle school students and their parents/guardians to the full range of BWHS athletic programs.
Foster Enthusiasm: Generate excitement about participating in high school sports.
Ensure Smooth Transition: Bridge the gap between middle school and high school athletics, clarifying eligibility requirements, off-season opportunities, and tryout processes.
Promote School Spirit: Instill a sense of belonging and pride in becoming a Briar Woods Falcon.
Roles and Responsibilities
Boosters President: Program oversight, budget approval, final scheduling approval, and coordination with high school principals.
Future Falcon Committee Chair: Primary point of contact, event scheduling/logistics, communication with middle schools, and coach coordination.
BWHS Head Coaches: Design and execute sport-specific activities/clinics, provide high school athletes as mentors, and manage necessary equipment. po
Future Falcon Committee Chair : Serve as mentors, lead activities, share personal experiences, and model positive student-athlete behavior.
General Program Guidelines
Target Audience: Students in grades 6 through 8 from feeder middle schools (e.g. Eagle Ridge Middle School).
Frequency: A minimum of one program-wide event per season (fall, winter, spring) is recommended.
Communication: All official communication must be approved by the Boosters President or Future Falcon Committee Chair, and distributed through established channels (e.g., middle school athletic directors, newsletters, social media, program website).
Safety First: All activities must adhere to BWHS and district safety protocols. Coaches must have appropriate certifications (e.g., CPR/First Aid) present for all hands-on activities.
Future Falcon Events:
Ticketed events: Future Falcons wearing jerseys will receive free admission to the event. (This has been approved by BW Athletic Director)
Concessions: ALL Future Falcons in attendance at a FF event where concessions are available will receive a raffle ticket at admission which entitles them to 1 free slice of pizza and 1 free drink sponsored by BW Athletic Boosters Club.
Optional Future Falcon activities:
Practices: Where possible, the Future Falcon committee chair will partner with the coaches and team parents to invite Eagle Ridge students to attend a practice in advance of or as part of their event.
Spirit Activities: Teams may choose to give away or find a sponsor to donate free swag to be distributed at FF activities. They may also come up with a half time contest or another fun activity for Eagle Ridge student participation.
Mentoring/Team Bonding: The high school team may set up a mentor program and/or an opportunity for the high school teams to come cheer on the middle school team or help train at a practice.
